LUBBOCK, Texas - After a difficult first round of the Landfall Tradition, the Texas Tech women's golf team responded with a 12-over 300 on Saturday, moving the Lady Raiders into a tie for 14th entering Sunday's final round.
Tech, who was in 17th place at 28-over-par entering Saturday, had all but one player card a lower score than its opening round. The one player who failed to do so, Gabby Dominguez, fired a 2-over 74 for the second-straight day as the sophomore is now in a tie for 15th place overall.
Kim Kaufman and Deborah DeVilla both added 3-over rounds, while Paloma Martinez was one shot back with a 4-over 76. Beverly Mendoza finished with a 7-over 79.
The Lady Raiders are tied with Northwestern at 40-over-par. Tech still has some ground it can make up as only six strokes separate the Lady Raiders and 10th-place Ohio State. Playing against likely its toughest field of the year, Tech's second round was the sixth-best among the 18 participating schools.
Playing at the Pete Dye Course in Wilmington, N.C., Duke holds a five-stroke lead over UCLA for the tournament lead, while third-place North Carolina trails closely behind at six-strokes back.
Sunday's final round is a shotgun start with Tech teeing off at 9:45 a.m. central time. Fans can keep up with the action through the live stats application at www.golfstat.com.
