Texas Tech Postgame Quotes
Head Coach Kristy Curry
On Tech's performance against Northwestern State
"It was great to see us come out and be able to make some plays. When you shoot 54 percent from the field and 50 percent from the three-point line you will certainly take it. I would like to see our free-throw situation improve, obviously, and we will continue to work on that. It is just focus and stepping up there with confidence and making those. We had 23 turnovers and that is nine over our average, but we will just continue to stay positive, continue to challenge them and be ready for Las Vegas."
On the performance against Penn State
"Sometimes your shot just doesn't fall. Like I said, it was too many mental errors there and too many little things. Whether it was a missed box out, bad pass in traffic or no hands on a contested shot. When your shot is not falling, you have to defend and rebound at a high level. It wasn't that the effort wasn't there, it was just some mental things that we didn't do very well."
On Jordan Barncastle's performance against Northwestern State
"It is great to see. It's so much of just her looking for a shot with no hesitation, and I am really proud and happy for her. I have just been thinking about her, and we want to do all that we can to help her. We've gotten on her, maybe I shouldn't have, tried to hug her, and just every little button I could possible push to let her know. It's like I told her, she has so much more help around her, just relax and play. The good thing was we were 8-0 and she hadn't shot the ball very well at all but this weekend she was 4-5 and I think a career high tonight. So, the thing I loved about tonight was how hard she went to the boards. She watched a little film after that Penn State game, and I thought she was a lot tougher tonight, a lot tougher."
On Tech's next opponent, Pittsburgh
"They have a really good point guard and they have some size. They have a great senior class with a bunch of freshman. Obviously, they are so well coached in a tradition rich NCAA tournament team. It is very important for us to understand that it is Pittsburgh, and I think that is enough in itself to get us excited about playing a really quality Big East opponent."
On her performance against Northwestern State
"I definitely think I looked for my shot more tonight. I was more aggressive offensively, but I don't really typically try to focus on scoring as much as defending, rebounding and doing the little things that I need to do to stay on the floor and help my team out. If it's scoring for the night then it's scoring. It's whatever I need to do to win."
On shot's falling for her against Northwestern State
"I guess so, yeah. Like coach said, sometimes your shots are falling and sometimes they are not. I don't think I am adjusting my shot any differently, you know nothing has really changed that aspect, but they were falling tonight, which is nice."
On being able to make three-pointers
"I hope so. I think extending it out and making the defense play out wide really opens up our inside game. So, to have that impact for Kierra (Mallard) and our other five players, to not let them suck in on defense, I think that helps everything out."
Center Kierra Mallard
On being surprised Jordan Barncastle can make three-pointers
"No. I have known Jordan (Barncastle) since we were in high school, so I already knew she could shoot three's."
On Jordan Barncastle's performance against Northwestern State
"If one person doesn't step up then we have a lot more people that can step up to the game. JB (Jordan Barncastle) did a wonderful job. Some of us that usually score high didn't really score high, and JB had our back. I think that is big about this team this year."
