Weygandt Sets School Record in Pole Vault

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Tech track program won 23 titles and freshman Shade Weygandt set a school record in the women's pole vault at the Texas Tech Open held at the Terry & Linda Fuller Track & Field Complex Friday night.
Weygandt made her first outdoor meet as a Lady Raider an impressive one setting the school record in the pole vault. She cleared 4.11M (13'-5.75") to win the event. Teammate Amanda Alley placed second clearing 3.70M (12'-1.50").
The men's 4x100M relay of Markus Henderson, Rashad Hawk, Jansen Hyde and Bryce Brown won the race with a 40.63.
Tech took the top two spots in the men's 110M hurdles. Hyde turned around and ran a wind-aided 13.73 to win the 110M hurdles while Jamele Mason ran a wind-aided 13.89 to place second.
Senior Tori Smith ran a personal-best time of 13.39 to win the women's 100M hurdles. Teammate Katie Grimes was second with a 14.00.
Sophomore Terra Evans ran a fast 100M with a time of 11.19. It is one of the fastest times run this year in the 100M.
Ozie Okolie won both the women's hammer and discus throws. She improved on her hammer throw of last week with a mark of 60.86 (199'-08") and threw a 50.23M (164'-09") in the discus.
Freshman Julian Wruck improved on his discus throw of a week ago. He won the event with a throw of 61.02M (200'-02"). The mark is one of the top in the NCAA.
Darrell Roddick won the men's high jump with a jump of 2.15M (7'-00.25").
Tech took the top two spots in the men's pole vault. Brian Porter won with a vault of 5.00M (16'-4.75") and Boston Spiva was second with mark of 4.85M (15'-11").
Winrose Karunde won the women's 1500M with a time of 4:49.77 with Kaci Westervelt placing third in a time of 5:06.38.
Tech won both the men's and women's shot put as Tyler Menges won the men's and Ifeatu Okafor won the women's. Menges threw 17.03M (55'-10.50") and Okafor threw 14.59M (47'-10.50").
Veronica DiLullo won the women's long jump with a personal-best jump of 5.81M (19'-00.75"). DiLullo also won the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.78M (38'-7.75'). Bernard Hammonds won the men's triple jump with a jump of 14.08M (46'-2.50).
Shannon Jackson won the women's 800M with a time of 2:17.97 and beat the field by 10 seconds.
Other Red Raiders to win titles at the Texas Tech Open were Nick Green (long jump), Bernard Hammons (triple jump), Wruck (hammer) Latoy Williams (400M), Cory Higgins (5000M), Markus Henderson (100M) and women's 4x400M.
