Tech Wins 17 Title at Texas Tech Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Lady Raiders and No. 5 Red Raiders won 17 titles at the Texas Tech Invitational and had the women's pole vault school record set by Shade Weygandt at the Terry and Linda Fuller Track on Saturday night.
Freshman Shade Weygandt turned in her best performance during an outdoor season and moved into a tie for third on the NCAA descending order list. She set a school record, personal best and the Terry and Linda Fuller Track record with a jump of 4.30M (14'-1.25") and currently has the third-best mark in the NCAA.
Terra Evans had a productive day at the Tech Invitational. The sophomore won both the 100M and 200M with impressive times. She won the 100M with an 11.13 and a 23.43 in the 200M. Her 200M time is one of the 10 fastest in the NCAA.
Jamele Mason's winning time of 50.29 in the 400M hurdles is one of the top five times run in the NCAA this year.
The Lady Raiders finished in first and second in the women's 1500M. Caroline Karunde ran a 4:24.10 and her twin sister Winrose Karunde ran a 4:28.62. Caroline Karunde's time is one of the top 30 in the NCAA this season.
Both 4x400M relays won the titles with new faces running. The women's relay consisted of Taylor Evans, Alexander, Graham and Clarke won with a time of 3:39.39. The men's relay of Zach Plinario, Bryce Brown, Latoy Williams and Mason won with a time of 3:08.71.
Senior Ozie Okloie won both the hammer and discus at the Texas Tech Invitational. She won the hammer in a throw o f 57.82M (189'-08") and the discus with a toss of 48.71M (159'-10").
The women's 4x100M relay of Erica Alexander, Terra Evans, Candace Jackson and Taylor Evans ran a season best time of 44.59
Markus Henderson won the men's 100M with a time of 10.58 and placed second in the 200M with a season best of 20.97.
Tori Smith and Jansen Hyde won the 100M hurdles and 110M hurdles respectively. Smith ran a time of 13.49 while Hyde ran a 13.96.
Tech swept the 3000M steeplechases on both the men's and women's side. Zach Quinones cleared the barriers and water pit in a time of 9:57.10 while Katherine Preibe won with a 12:05.47.
Kaci Westervelt won the women's 5000M with a time of 18:32.48. Teammate Lillian Badaru won the women's 10000M with a time of 35:05.20.
