LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 16 Texas Tech men's tennis team wrapped up its two-match road trip with its second win as it defeated No. 20 Oklahoma, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Gregg Wadley Indoor Tennis Pavilion in Norman, Okla.
It was the second win of the season against the Sooners as Tech beat OU, 4-3, in the championship match of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic on March 21.
Tech (20-3/3-2 Big 12) started off the match winning the doubles point for the 17th time this year as the Red Raiders took two of the three matches against the Sooners (15-5/1-4 Big 12). Tech's top tandem of 20th-ranked Raony Carvalho and Rafael Garcia posted an 8-3 win at No.1 against 15th-ranked Andrei Daescu and Costin Paval. "This was an incredible team effort today as everyone contributed to this win," said head coach Tim Siegel. "We played fantastic tennis at the top of the lineup. I am so proud of Gonzalo (Escobar). He played incredible tennis. I am very proud of the way we played this weekend."
The victory gives the Red Raiders their third 20-win season in the Siegel era. The other two 20-win seasons came in 2005 (25-4) and 2008 (20-6).
