Lamb Jumps to NCAA Lead in Long Jump

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech freshman Bryce Lamb jumped his way to the top of the NCAA descending order list in the men's long jump with a mark of 8.05M (26'-5") but Tech lost both the men and women's dual meets to Nebraska at the Terry and Linda Fuller Track on Saturday night.
The No. 14 Nebraska women's squad scored 99 points to the No. 12 Lady Raiders 98 points. Tech scored a majority of its points in the sprints. Nebraska's women scored its points in the field events winning seven of eight events.
The No.20 Nebraska men's squad had a little bigger cushion winning 104 to 98. The No. 6 Red Raiders won 10 events compared to Nebraska's nine.
Lamb jumped his jumped an outdoor season best of 8.05M (26'-5") to win the men's long jump and score five points in the dual meet. The freshman was ranked ninth on the long jump list coming into the weekend.
Lamb's triple jump of 16.10M (52'-10") put him into the top 10 on the NCAA descending order list. He is now ranked in the top 10 in both the long jump and triple jump.
Tech has had sophomore Markus Henderson running better every week as the conference meet approaches. He improved on his personal-best time with a 10.34 which puts him into the top 10 in the NCAA in the 100M. Henderson improved in the 200M with a season best of 20.60 and it is his fastest time at Tech.
Senior Brian Porter went out with a bang at his final home meet. Porter cleared a season best 5.28M (17'-3.75") to win the men's pole vault.
The men's 400M hurdles had a different feel than the last time Tech and Nebraska ran at the Terry and Linda Fuller Track. Last year Nebraska's Adam Dailey and Lehann Fourie finished first and second with Tech's Jamele Mason in third. This time Red Raider Bryce Brown and Mason ran first and second.
The men's 4x100M relay ran a season-best time of 39.73 with the group of Brown, Rashad Hawk, Jansen Hyde and Henderson to win the event. The women's 4x100M of Erica Alexander, Terra Evans, Candace Jackson and Terra Evans ran a 44.74 to win the title.
Freshman Shade Weygandt beat the defending Big 12 Champion in Nebraska's Natalie Willer clearing 4.12M (13'-6.25") in the women's pole vault.
Tech took both the men's and women's 400M titles. Zach Plinario won with a season best of 46.78 while Trudeann Clarke won the women's with her season best of 53.40.
Tech swept the 1500M titles as Caroline Karunde and Gilbert Limo scored five points apiece. Karunde ran a 4:21.81 and Limo crossed the line in 3:56.73.
The Lady Raiders also won titles in the 100M, 400M hurdles, 200M, 5000M and 4x400M. Terra Evans and Candace Jackson stayed consistent in the 100M and 200M with times of 11.38 and 23.61. Winrose Karunde continued her strong season with a 16:36.15 to win the 5000M.
Sandra Iwunze, two-time defending Big 12 Champion in the women's 400M hurdles seems to be finding her stride with a 1:00.49 to win the 400M hurdles.
The women's 4x400M relay ran near its season best with a 3:37.99. The group included Alexander, Terra Evans, Clarke and Taylor Evans.
