
Tech Adds Two All-American Honors at NCAA's

EUGENE, Ore. -
The Texas Tech track program picked up two All-American honors and qualified the women's 4x400M relay and Winrose Karunde (3000M steeplechase) for the final in front of a record crowd of 11,172 at Hayward Field on the second day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Winrose Karunde ran a personal-best time of 10:07.15 in the 3000M steeplechase and finished second in her heat to grab an automatic bid to the final. The 3000M steeplechase final for the women will be on Saturday at 10:54 a.m. PST.
The women's 4x400M relay of Candace Jackson, Trudeann Clarke, Erica Alexander and Taylor Evans ran a 3:34.33 and earned one of the time qualifier spots in the final. The group had the sixth-fastest time overall and it marks the first time the group has advanced to the final since 2004.
Sophomore Terra Evans couldn't quite pull off advancing to the final of the 200M. She ran a 23.52 to place 10th overall just missing a spot in the final. Evans does earn her first All-American honor as she was one of the top eight Americans in the race.
Tech's two 110M hurdlers missed out on the final of the 110M hurdles. Jansen Hyde placed 10th overall with his wind-aided time of 13.75. He did earn his first All-America status for being one of the top eight Americans in the 110M hurdles. Teammate Brandon Tucker was 19th with a time of 14.01 in his first NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Senior Tori Smith ran a wind-aided 13.32 and placed sixth in her heat and 16th overall. The senior finished her career as the school-record holder with a time of 13.33.
Senior Ozie Okolie completed her career as a Lady Raider competing in her fourth-straight NCAA Outdoor Championships. Her best throw of the meet was 180'-9" (55.10M) on her final throw of the preliminaries. She finished in 16th overall and finishes her career as the school-record holder.
The men's 4x400M relay of Bryce Brown, Latoy Williams, Zach Plinario and Jamele Mason ran a 3:06.95 and missed making the final by one spot. The group finished in ninth overall barely being edged out at the line by Baylor.
The Red Raiders still have six points in the competition and were in fifth place going into the men's 10,000M. The Lady Raiders have yet to score yet. The first event tomorrow for Texas Tech will be at 3:30 p.m. PST with the men's high jump.
