
Tech Track Hosts Second Meet of Season

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 7 Red Raiders and No. 18 Lady Raiders track teams are set to host their second meet of the season, the Texas Tech Invitational, at the Athletic Training Center with events slated to begin on Fri., Jan. 21 at 6 p.m.
The Texas Tech Invitational will not only have some of the top talent from the college ranks but various professionals will be showcasing their talents. Mike Rodgers of Nike, Michael Tinsley of Adidas and Bianca Knight of Adidas highlight the field of professionals running at the meet.
Rodgers was a silver medalist in the in the 60M at the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships and has won US titles in both the 60M and 100M. Knight won the 2008 NCAA Indoor 200M title while running for the University of Texas. She holds the NCAA record in the indoor 200M at 22.40. Tinsley won the 2006 NCAA Champion in the 400M hurdles. He was third at the 2010 USA Outdoor Championships in the 400M hurdles.
Both teams are coming off a solid start to the season after the Texas Tech Open. Kelly Closse had a productive weekend by putting herself into the top 10 in nation in both the weight throw and shot put. She is currently No. 7 in both the weight (20.17M/66`-2.25") and shot put (16.16M/53'-0.25").
Sophomore Shade Weygandt is No. 6 in the NCAA in the pole vault after clearing 4.10M (13'-5.25") to win the Texas Tech Open. Bryce Brown is sitting at No. 10 among hurdlers in the 60M hurdles after his 7.35 was converted to 7.90. Teammates Brandon Tucker (7.91) and Jamele Mason (7.93) are also in the top 20.
The men's 4x400M also put itself into the top 10 of the NCAA with its 3:10.74. The group of Brown, Markus Henderson, Mason and Shane Braithwaite are currently No. 5.
The Red Raiders will have jumpers Darrell Roddick and Bryce Lamb open up their season this weekend. Lamb was an All-American in the indoor long jump and is the defending Big 12 Indoor Champion in both the long jump and triple jump. Roddick will start his season with the high jump on Friday night.
Numerous other Red Raiders will open their season including Latoy Williams and Taylor Evans. Other teams competing in the Texas Tech Invitational include Abilene Christian, Angelo State, Barton Community College, Butler Community College, Dallas Baptist, Incarnate Word, Juarez University, McMurry, New Mexico Junior College, Northwood, Oklahoma City, Prairie View, Pratt Community College, Sam Houston State, Southern Nazarene, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Texas Southern, Texas State, Wayland Baptist and West Texas A&M.
The Texas Tech Invitational begins Fri., Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. with field events and running events. Saturday's events begin at 9 a.m. with the women's `B' pole vault followed by other field events at 10 a.m. and running at 11:30 a.m.
