
Tech Hits Road for Big 12/SEC Challenge

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 4 Red Raiders and No. 13 Lady Raiders track teams travel to College Station, Texas, for the Texas A&M Big 12 vs. SEC Challenge held at the Gilliam Indoor Track & Field Stadium this Friday starting at 6:30 p.m.
Tech will team up with Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Kansas State to take on Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss and South Carolina. Numerous teams are ranked coming into the meet. On the men's side the ranks include No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 14 Georgia, No. 20 Kansas State and No. 23 Oklahoma. The women have No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 12 Oklahoma and No. 22 South Carolina.
Tech goes into the Big 12 vs. SEC Challenge coming off its strongest performance of the season at the Texas Tech Invitational this past weekend. Tech has student-athletes ranked in the top 10 in 12 NCAA events.
Bryce Brown is currently tied for the nation lead in the 60M hurdles. He ran a 7.19 in the 55m hurdles and it converts to a 7.74 in the 60M hurdles. Brandon Tucker is in the top 10 of the hurdles as well. His 7.26 in the 55M hurdles converts to a 7.81.
The Lady Raiders had Shade Weygandt along with Caroline and Winrose Karunde move up the NCAA list. Weygandt cleared the highest bar by an American under the age of 20, Saturday, with her mark of 4.40M/14'-5.25". She is tied for second on the NCAA list. The Karunde sisters ran the mile and finished within a second of each other. Caroline Karunde is No. 6 with a 4:44.94 and Winrose Karunde is currently No. 7 with a 4:45.43.
The meet will follow conference scoring with relays and individuals scoring for the top eight places (10,8,6,5,4,3,2,1). The meet starts on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. with the combined events. Saturday's festivities will start at 11 a.m. with the combined events.
