COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas Tech senior Darrell Roddick finished up his career as a Red Raider with an All-America honor in the triple jump on the final day of the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station, Texas.
"I was proud of Darrell for competing the way he did in his last meet and to earn All-America honors was a great way for him to go out," We didn't do as well as we would have hoped to but we will turn our focus to outdoors and continue working."
Senior Darrell Roddick ended his Texas Tech career on a high note at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Roddick had his best jump on his third attempt with a mark of 52'-10.75" (16.12M). He finished in eighth place to earn first team All-America honors. He is the second Red Raider in school history to be named All-American in the triple jump.
Roddick also competed in the men's high jump and entered with the bar 7'-00.50" (2.14M) but was unable to clear on his three attempts. Roddick picks up honorable mention All-America status.
Shade Weygandt came into the pole vault at the second height of 13'-5.25" (4.09M) but couldn't clear a bar. The sophomore earns honorable mention All-America honor.
Kelly Closse threw 53'-3.50" (16.23M) in the women's shot put to place 15th. Her teammate Ifeatu Okafor was right behind her with her mark of 53'-2.75" (16.22M) to finish 16th. The duo both named second team All-America honors.
The Lady Raiders tied for 36th with five points while the Red Raiders scored six points and finished in a tie for 33rd.
