LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech freshman Kyal Meyers was honored by the Big 12 Conference today with the Big 12 Outstanding Freshman of the Year award after winning the Big 12 pole vault title last weekend.
"I am extremely proud of Kyal for coming in and improving as quickly as he has," head coach Wes Kittley. "I look forward to see his improvement not only this season but in the seasons to come and it is something we are excited to see."
Meyers won the pole vault with his personal-best mark of 5.30M/17'-4.50". It is the best mark by a freshman this season in the NCAA. It is also the second-straight year that a Red Raider has won the award as Bryce Lamb took home the honor last year on the men's side.
Meyers will compete this weekend at the Washington Last Chance meet and will look to improve on his personal-best mark.
