Tech Wins 14 Titles at UTEP Springtime Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 3 Red Raiders and No. 12 Lad Raiders track teams brought back 14 titles from the UTEP Springtime Invitational held in El Paso, Texas.
Ifeatu Okafor took home two titles with wins in the discus and shot put. Okafor won the shot put with a throw of 53'-9.25" (16.40M). She turned around and tossed the disc 172'-5" (52.55M). Her throw in the discus puts her into the top 10 in the NCAA.
Kelsey Lloyd won the 100M hurdles for the second-straight week. Lloyd ran a wind-aided 13.56. Katie Grimes finished in third with a wind-aided 13.58 and Jaime Simanek was fourth in a wind-aided time of 14.04.
The Tech men took two of the top three places in the 110M hurdles. Omo Osaghae ran a 13.57 to win it while Shane Brathwaite was third in a 14.15.
Brathwaite turned around and won the 400M hurdles with a season-best time of 52.25.
Gil Roberts ran a wind-aided 21.01 to win the 200M. The time will rank him in the top 15 of the NCAA.On the women's side Taylor Evans ran a 23.30 and placed second. Evans sits No. 20 in the NCAA.
Bryce Brown won the men's 400M with a 47.13 while teammate Zach Plinario was third with his time of 48.41.
The women's 4x100M relay of Tara Thomas, Terra Evans, Candace Jackson and Erica Alexander won the race with a 44.40.
Shade Weygandt opened her season with a victory in the pole vault. The sophomore cleared 13'-11.25" (4.25M). Teammate Jessie Gibbs placed second by clearing 12'-8" (3.86M).
The Lady Raiders put three in the top five of the 100M. Terra Evans ran second with an 11.45 while Alexander was right behind in third with a 11.54. Thomas finished in an 11.73 for fifth.
Julian Wruck equaled Okafor's feat by winning both the shot put and discus as well. Wruck won the shot put with a mark of 51'-5" (15.67M). He threw the disc 194'-1" (59.17M).
Nick Tam won the men's high jump clearing 6'-7.50" (2.02M).
Jackson ran a 54.69 in the women's 400M and placed second.
Kearci Jobe and Shannon Jackson both ran the 800M. Jobe ran a 2:16.41 to cross the line in third while Jackson crossed in a 2:17.49 for fourth.
The women's 4x400M relay of Meshawn Graham, Taylor Evans, Jackson and Lloyd ran a 3:38.66 to win.
The men's 4x400M relay won the race with a 3:08.14. The relay consisted of Roberts, Plinario, Brown and Jamele Mason.
The distance crew had a few run at the Hardin-Simmons Invitational.
Kaci Westervelt and Katherine Preibe finished in first and second in the 1500M with times of 4:59.11 and 5:03.16, respectively.
Silas Kemboi won the 1500M on the men's side with a 3:53.27. Robinson Simatei was second in a 3:58.19.
Kemboi also won the 800M in a 1:54.47 with Robinson behind him in second in a time of 1:58.57.
