LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech added a dynamic sprinter in Cierra White (Engineering and Science/Philadelphia, Penn.) who is the high school indoor 200M national champion and a three-time Pennsylvania state champion.
"We are so excited to have found Cierra (White) in Philadelphia and for her to want to come to Texas Tech," head coach Wes Kittley said. "We think she has tremendous potential in anything from the 400M down. She has great speed and someone we think can develop into a great Red Raider."
White ran a 23.95 at the National Indoor Track & Field Championships at the New York Armory. Her 23.95 was the top time in the nation in the indoor 200M. She won both the 100M and 200M last year at the Pennsylvania state championships. She has personal bests of 11.88 in the 100M and 23.95 in the 200M.
White now joins the class of three No. 1 signees on the women side with Le'Tristan Pledger (Washington HS/Kansas City, Kan.) in the long jump, Michaela Palu (Marshall/San Antonio) in the high jump and Hannah Carson (Chandler/Chandler, Ariz.) in the javelin.
