Tech Track Finishes Strong at Last Chance Meets

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 18 Red Raiders and No. 19 Lady Raiders moved up the NCAA lists this weekend and will now wait for the NCAA declaration lists to come out to see who will compete at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships next weekend.
The Lady Raiders distance crew continued its strong weekend in the 800M at the Alex Wilson Invitational. Purity Biwott and Caroline Jepleting both ran season bests in the 800M. Biwott won the 800M with a 2:05.80 while Jepleting followed with a 2:05.95.
Katie Grimes tied her personal-best and school record time of 8.38 in the prelims of the 60M hurdles at the Iowa State Last Chance meet. She followed it up with an 8.40 in the finals. Kelsey Lloyd pushed Grimes in both rounds. Lloyd ran an 8.39 in the preliminaries and 8.40 in the finals.
Winrose Karunde ran the 3000M at the Alex Wilson Invitational in 9:32.39 to finish seventh but has a season best of 9:25.46. Meshawn Graham ran the 400M at 55.98 at the same meet placing eighth.
Two pole vaulters went to the Washington Last Chance meet in Seattle, Wash. Shade Weygandt won the meet by clearing 4.31M/14'-1.75". The sophomore has a season best and NCAA automatic mark of 4.40M/14'-5.25". Kyal Meyers cleared 5.23M/17'-1.75" but has a season best of 5.25M/17'-4.50"
Tech worked hard at the Iowa State Last Chance meet in various events. Jamele Mason ran a 47.18 in the 400M but has a season best of 47.15. The Lady Raiders had Taylor Evans and Candace Jackson run the 400M for the women placing in third and sixth, respectively. Taylor Evans ran a 53.85 and Jackson ran the oval in a 54.57.
The Red Raiders hurdle crew had Brandon Tucker and Shane Brathwaite run the 60M hurdles. Brathwaite ran a season best of 7.86 while Tucker ran a 7.83. Tucker's season best is 7.80.
Terra Evans ran in the 60M and finished with a 7.45 but doesn't improve on her season best of 7.37.
The women's 4x400M relay of Jackson, Erica Alexander, Terra Evans and Taylor Evans ran a season best of 3:36.33 and was third overall. The squad will now wait for NCAA declarations.
The men's 4x400M relay of Jamele Mason, Bryce Brown, Latoy Williams and Brathwaite ran 3:08.47 and will also wait for the NCAA declarations. The group has a season best of 3:08.46 ran at the Big 12 Indoor Championships. The relay will now wait to see if they will go to the NCAA Indoor Championships.
