The Texas Tech track & field program has added four more signees for the fall of 2011 announced today that includes Mariam Amadu, a three-time Texas 4A 300M hurdler state champion.
Amadu (Kingwood Park/Kingwood, Texas) won the Texas class 4A state title in the 300M hurdles for the third-straight year with a time of 41.63. She has the fastest 300M hurdle in the state of Texas on the women's side and is currently No. 5 nationally. "
Tech also adds the No. 2 Texas pole vaulter in Chase Wolfle (Amarillo/Amarillo, Texas). His best vault of the season is 16'-6" and is tied for No. 11 nationally with fellow Tech signee Kyle Thompson. He was third at the Texas class 5A state championship this past season and second two years ago. He also won the Texas 5A region one meet two years in a row.
"We are so fortunate to get Chase (Wolfle) especially being a local kid from Amarillo," Kittley said. "He is a diamond in a rough and one I think will be able to shine. I really think he will be able to help us immediately."
Kittley added Kendall McVey (Cibola/Cibola, N.M.) to help add depth the middle distance group. McVey won the New Mexico class 5A state championship in the 800M. He has a season best of 1:55.20 which puts him as the top-ranked 800M runner in the state of New Mexico.
"He reminds me of me," Kittley said of McVey. "He has good speed coming out of high school and is tall. He will be a great kid to develop and I am excited to get him."
The throws added the sixth-ranked Texas discus thrower in Taji Henley (Spring/Spring, Texas). He placed second at the Texas class 5A state championship meet this past May. He has a season-best throw of 183'-3".
"I am so thrilled to get Taji (Henley)," Kittley said. "He threw 180 feet at the state track meet. He is a great young talent and one we can develop. He is a really good athlete and he just has to get stronger."
