Tech Track Looking to Make World Teams

LUBBOCK, Texas - Current and former members of the Texas Tech track & field program will be travelling around the world to try and make their respective national teams for the 2011 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships held in Daegu, South Korea in August.
Tech will be sending six student-athletes who competed for the squad this past season to the US Outdoor Track & Field Championships held in Eugene, Ore. Competition begins Thurs., June 23 and will last through Sun., June 26. The top three spots are guaranteed a place on the US squad for the 2011 IAAF World Championships.
Omo Osaghae will run the 110M hurdles and look to accomplish the feat of winning the US Indoor 60M hurdle title and US 110M hurdle title in the same year. Osaghae will run the hurdles on Fri., June 24 at 3:45 p.m. (PST)
Gil Roberts will be after his second stint on the US World Championship team in the 400M. He was a member of the team in 2009. Bryce Brown is after a spot in the 400M hurdles with his season-best time being 49.04. Roberts will run Thurs., June 23 at 5:00 p.m. (PST) while Brown will compete Friday night at 6:30 p.m. (PST).
Bryce Lamb is slated to jump in the men's long jump. His season best is 26'-9" (8.15M) when he finished fifth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Sat., June 25 at 12:25 p.m. (PST), will be when the men's long jump is held.
On the women's side, Candace Jackson (200M) and Ifeatu Okafor (shot put) will try to add their names to team USA's list. Jackson has a season best of 22.89 in the 200M while Okafor's best throw of the season is 58'-3.75" (17.77M). Okafor is throwing the shot on Thurs., June 24 at 6:20 p.m. (PST).
Tori Polk, former Lady Raider long jumper, will be competing at the US Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the women's long jump.
Texas Tech strength and conditioning coach Jason Young, will be throwing the men's discus tomorrow night at 6:10 p.m. (PST) at the US Championships.
Jamele Mason will head to Puerto Rico to run in the 400M hurdles for a chance to compete at the IAAF World Championships. Mason's season best is 49.30.
Shane Brathwaite will run in his native Barbados in the 110M hurdles. He has a season-best time of 13.58 in the 110M hurdles.
Latoy Williams will have a challenging field in the 400M at the Bahamas' trials. He will compete head to head with former Red Raiders Andrae Williams and Michael Mathieu for a spot on the team.
Julian Wruck will throw the discus for a chance to be on the Australia national team. He was on the 2010 Australia World Junior team where he placed third at the IAAF World Junior championships in the discus.
Sally Kipyego, the world leader in the women's 10,000M, will compete in the Kenyan National Championships in July. She will run the 10,000M at the Kenyan trials.
The 2011 IAAF World Championships will be held in Daegu, South Korea, from Aug., 27 through Sep. 4th.
