Young Makes US National Team in Discus

LUBBOCK, Texas - Former Red Raider and one of Texas Tech's strength and conditioning coach, Jason Young, placed second in the men's discus and will compete for Team USA at the IAAF World Championships held in Daegu, South Korea.
Young, sponsored by Nike, took the lead on his first throw of the competition with a mark of 208'-6" (63.55M). The two-time All-American while at Tech, was passed by Jarred Rome in his first throw of finals. Young's best throw of 209'-4" (63.81M) put him at second overall.
Ifeatu Okafor was able to get one legal throw in the women's shot put and made it count. The sophomore All-American threw 56'-5.25" (17.70M) and placed seventh at the US Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Gil Roberts did not advance to the semi-final of the 400M at the US Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He ran a 46.38 and finished sixth in his heat. Roberts placed 19th overall.
Competition starts tomorrow with Omo Osaghae in the 110M hurdles at 3:45 p.m. (PST).
