
Cross Country Starts Season in Ruidoso

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech cross country teams will open the season with the Texas Tech Ruidoso Open on Friday, Sept. 2 at 3:30 p.m. CST in Ruidoso, N.M.
The Lady Raiders cross country team are coming off its most successful season in program history. The squad won its third-straight Big 12 title and finished third at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. It is the second-straight year the team finished in the top four of the NCAA.
The squad returns three from last year's team including two All-Americans and the Big 12 individual Champion. Rose Tanui returns for her senior season after placing fifth at the NCAA Championships and earning All-America status. Tanui also won the Big 12 individual title.
Purity Biwott is a two-time cross country All-American returning for her senior season. She has been on two Big 12 Championships team and placed 29th at the NCAA Championships. Caroline Jepleting also returns after placing in the top 10 in five races last year.
The men return seven from last year's squad that placed 10th at the Big 12 Championships. Samuel Bushong and Reid Strong were the top finishers at the Big 12 Championships and will be looked upon to lead a young team.
Valentino Julien and Paul Julmeus are also two returners that will look to improve the squad.
The race will be run at the corner of Mechem Drive and Cedar Creek Road which is behind the Smokey Bear Ranger Station. The competition will be Eastern New Mexico for both squads. Results will be found on www.texastech.com.
