LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team moved up two spots to wrap the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in fourth place Tuesday following an even-par final round at the Ptarmigan Golf Club in Fort Collins, Colo.
The Lady Raiders, who were briefly tied for second during the back nine, fired the lowest round of the day with a 288 to finish 16-over for the tournament, passing fifth-place California and sixth-place Baylor in the process.
"The team played really well today," Tech head coach JoJo Robertson said. "It was good to see us improve every round and shoot lower scores as the tournament went on. We did a lot of things we talked about last night and going out with a `nothing to lose' attitude. I think today more than anything we proved what we can do throughout the fall and next spring."
Gabby Dominguez played a big part in the charge up the leaderboard as she recorded a 2-under 70 card that moved her into a tie for fifth individually. The junior was even-par heading into her final two holes before ending the day with back-to-back birdies.
Kim Kaufman finished a stroke back from Dominguez in a tie for ninth overall after carding an even-par 72 to complete the tournament at 3-over. It marked the second-straight year the junior has finished in the top 10 at the tournament after wrapping last year's season-opening event in a tie for fourth overall.
Tech received solid scores from the rest of its lineup as well as Hannah Arnold matched her career-low score with a 1-over 73 to finish 6-over overall, which was good enough to tie for 17th, marking her first career top 20 finish.
Freshman newcomer Elin Arvidsson completed her first collegiate tournament three strokes back following a 2-over final round that left her 9-over for the tournament and in a tie for 29th overall.
Beverly Mendoza, meanwhile, posted her lowest score of the tournament as she sunk a birdie on the final hole to finish 1-over on the day and 14-over for the tournament.
UC Davis claimed the tournament title as its 10-over final round was good enough to finish two strokes in front of Illinois and Colorado, who tied for second at 11-over. Demi Runas of UC Davis cruised to take the individual crown at 5-under-par.
The Lady Raiders will take a few weeks off before returning to the links Oct. 3-4 for the Windy City Collegiate Championships in Highland Park, Ill.
