Ambroziak claims top-5 finish at Jim West Challenge
October 20, 2025 | Women's Golf
SAN MARCOS, Texas — Texas Tech women's golf junior Maja Ambroziak fired a final-round 1-under-par 71 on Monday, helping her finish in a tie for third place at the Jim West Challenge, played at Kissing Tree Golf Club. Ambroziak finished the event with a 54-hole total of 8-under-par (208), matching a career low and marking her best finish since her Red Raider Invitational win in 2023.
Ambroziak stumbled early in her final round, carding four bogeys in her first eight holes after opening the day with the clubhouse lead through the first 36 holes. However, she rebounded by holing four birdies in her final nine holes without a dropped shot to climb back up the leaderboard and into the top five.
Ambroziak added a final-round 71 (-1) to Sunday's first-round 70 (-2) and a blistering 67 (-5) in the second round to finish 8-under-par overall. In addition to the 54-hole total matching a career low previously set in her 2023 Red Raider Invitational win, her second-round 67 also matched her single-round career low from that same event. It also tied for the lowest single round carded by a Red Raider this season, joining Denisa Vodickova's 67, shot at the Illini Women's Invitational.
Senior Lauren Zaretsky also made a final-round surge into the top 15, finishing in 13th place. After opening with back-to-back 1-over-par 73s, Zaretsky fired a final-round 5-under-par 67, matching Ambroziak and Vodickova for the team's season low, climbing 11 spots up the leaderboard. Five birdies to only one dropped shot earned her a 13th-place finish at 3-under-par (213), her fourth top-15 result of the season.
Houston's Natalie Saint Germain shot a final-round 4-under-par 68 with two eagles to claim individual honors.
While the Red Raiders finished in sixth place, Texas A&M fired a 13-under-par final round to eclipse 36-hole leader Florida State for the team title by one shot at 15-under-par.
The Red Raiders return to action in the spring, Feb. 2–4, at the Paradise Invitational at Osprey Point Golf Course in Boca Raton, Fla.
