FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Texas Tech completed competition in the prestigious Tyson Invitational meet on Saturday afternoon. Three of the six Tech athletes who competed in the meet set seasonal bests.
"It was a great experience," assistant coach Jon Murray said. "It was good to come see some the best competition in the country and have success. This was a great building experience as we get ready for the Big 12 Indoor Championship meet in two weeks."
Texas Tech competed against 10 nationally-ranked teams at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
Reid Strong set a personal best in both the mile and the 3,000 meter run. The sophomore ran a 4:13.33 Friday which was four seconds faster than his previous best set last season at the Tyson Invitational. In the final day of action the Abilene native ran an 8:28.10 in the 3,000 meter run to set a seasonal best.
Strong placed 14th out of 24 athletes in the mile and 15th out of 36 in the 3,000 meter run.
Meanwhile, Brendan Devlin set a season-best mark in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:01--a solid 12 seconds off of his mark set at the Texas Tech Open on Jan. 21.
Sophomore Rachel Folan also set a season-best mark in the mile run with a time of 5:10.06 to place 15th out of 23 in the event.
The track and field team will have the week off before competing at the Big 12 Indoor Championships on Feb. 24-25 in College Station.
