LUBBOCK, Texas - For the first time this indoor season, the Lady Raiders slipped in the official United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association computer rankings.
In the poll released Tuesday, the Lady Raiders fell one spot to No. 9.
The squad is coming off of a competitive weekend in two of the top meets in the country. Tech sent athletes to both the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. as well as the UNM Don Kirby Collegiate Elite in Albuquerque, N.M.
Highlighting the weekend were two Lady Raiders who broke school records at the UNM Don Kirby Collegiate Elite. For the third consecutive weekend, senior Kelly Closse broke the school record in the weight throw competition with a winning toss of 21.62m (70'-11.25"). Meanwhile teammate, junior Katie Grimes, broke the school record in the 60 meter hurdles with a converted time of 8.20 due to altitude adjustments. It also marked the third consecutive week in which she has broken the school record in her particular event.
Between the two meets, Texas Tech had 15 athletes record season-best performances.
The squad will return to action Feb. 24-25 at the Big 12 Indoor Championships held at the McFerrin Athletic Center in College Station.
