LUBBOCK, Texas - Following the squad's first weekend away from competition, the Lady Raider track and field team slipped to No. 12 in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association computer poll. In the poll released Tuesday, the Lady Raiders checked in at No. 12, three spots from the No. 9 position they held last week.
The team has five athletes appearing in the Top-20 of the national indoor performance list, including 2011 Indoor All-American Kelly Closse who checks in at No. 3 in the weight throw (21.62m, 70'-11.25") and No. 10 in the shot put (16.83m, 55'-2.75").
The No. 12 Lady Raiders are in the midst of one of the toughest indoor schedules in program history. Texas Tech has competed in some of the elite meets in the country this winter, including the Texas A&M Mondo Challenge, the New Balance Invitational in New York City, the Tyson Invitational and the UNM Don Kirby Collegiate Elite, each of which have hosted several nationally ranked teams.
Both the Lady Raiders and the Red Raiders are preparing to compete at the Big 12 Indoor Championships this weekend in College Station, Texas.
