LUBBOCK, Texas - Following a highly successful weekend of action which included competition in two meets, the Texas Tech track and field program has ten athletes appearing in the Top 20 on the national Division I indoor list.
Highlighting the rankings are two athletes, All-American senior Kelly Closse and All-American junior Bryce Lamb who both appear in the top five. Closse, whose mark of 21.56m (70'-9.00") in the weight throw on Saturday at the Red Raider Open broke an indoor school record, currently ranks third in the nation. The mark surpassed the NCAA automatically qualifying standard of 21.00m.
Meanwhile, Lamb remains in second on the national indoor long jump list after leaping 7.94m 26' 0.75" during his season-opening meet on Jan. 20. The mark is just outside the NCAA automatic qualifying standard of 8.00m.
Junior sprinter Candace Jackson entered the Top 20 for the first time this season after running a time of 54.26 in the 400 meter dash at the New Balance Invitational on Friday.
The track and field squad returns to action this weekend by competing in two meets including the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the UNM Don Kirby Collegiate Elite in Albuquerque, N.M.
