LUBBOCK, Texas - On the heels of the 2012 Indoor Championships Texas Tech earned a total of nine indoor All-American honors by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Monday.
Junior Bryce Lamb, who placed fourth overall in the long jump, along with members of the Lady Raider 4x400 relay team earned first team All-American honors. The 4x400 relay team comprised of Taylor Evans, Candace Jackson, Erica Alexander and Olivia Lewis, finished seventh overall at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Nampa, Idaho over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Kelly Closse (weight throw, shot put), Katie Grimes (60 meter hurdles) and Kyal Meyers (pole vault) each earned second-team honors.
"I'm proud of all nine," head coach Wes Kittley said. "It just adds to a lot of the All-Americans that we have had and their place in history here at Texas Tech. It gives us a great boost towards the outdoor season."
Second-team All-American awards were first implemented by the USTFCCCA in 2011.
Lamb, a junior, has now earned All-American honors in the indoor long jump in three consecutive years. He earned first team honors in 2011, and All-American honors in 2010.
Lamb was also named a first-team All-American in the long jump during the 2011 outdoor season.
Alexander, Evans and Jackson each earned second-team All-American honors for the outdoor 4x400 and 4x100 relays in 2011.
This marks the first All-American honors for both Grimes and Meyers.
The Texas Tech track and field team will begin its 2012 outdoor season this weekend in Tucson, Ariz. by competing in the Willie Williams Classic on the University of Arizona campus.
