
Nwokey in Second Place After Day One of Heptathlon

Precious Nwokey is in second place overall with 3,368 pionts after the opening day of the women's heptathlon.

AUSTIN, Texas - Senior Precious Nwokey opened the 85th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with a quick start in the women's heptathlon. Nwokey, who transferred to Tech from Kentucky for her senior season, is currently in second place with 3,368 points after completing four events.
In the final event of the day, Nwokey won the 200 meter dash with a personal-best time of 24.11. With the time, she gained 970 points and jumped three spots from fifth-place to second-place overall. Nwokey finished the race ahead of the overall points leader Chelsea Eades-Carrier of West Virginia.
"I was really pleased," head coach Wes Kittley said. "The 200 meter race was just fantastic to finish the day."
Nwokey finds herself just 168 points behind Eades-Carrier who leads the competition with 3,536 points.
Nwokey began the day by running a personal-best time of 13.59 in the 100 meter hurdles to finish second and gain a quick 1,037 points. In the field events, Nwokey recorded marks of 1.60 meters (5'-3.00") in the high jump and 11.45 meters (37'-6.75") in the shot put.
The senior will continue action tomorrow beginning with the long jump which has as scheduled start time of 12 p.m.
"I just have to focus and make sure I come out here and execute the way I need to tomorrow." Nwokey said.
