
Both Track and Field Teams Ranked in Top 10

The No. 7 Red Raiders and No. 10 Lady Raiders each appeared in the Top 10 of the USTFCCCA poll released Tuesday.
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field team continued to earn national recognition on Tuesday as the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its Top 25 poll. For the second consecutive time this season, both the men's and women's team appeared in the Top 10.
"I'm really excited," head coach Wes Kittley said. "I think we have had some good meets. Everyone is starting to build up and everyone is starting to compete around the country. We are ultimately holding our ground."
The Red Raiders fell three spots to No. 7, while the Lady Raiders fell one spot to No. 10 in week one of the official computer poll.The two squads opened the season ranked in the Top 10 of the March 22 preseason poll as the Red Raider appeared at No. 4 while the Lady Raiders checked in at No. 9.
Between the two squads a total of 11 athletes are currently ranked among the top 10 nationally in their respective events. Five athletes are ranked among the top five.
Tech is coming off of a successful showing at the 85th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin last weekend where the program brought home a total of 14 top five finishes. Meanwhile, senior Precious Nwokey broke the school record in the women's heptathlon with a total of 5,533 points.
Now the team will shift its focus to two meets this weekend. A bulk of the Kittley's athletes will compete at the Battle on the Bayou set to be held April 7 at LSU, while a group of distance runners will travel west to compete in the Stanford Invitational April 6-7.
