BOERNE, Texas - Junior Kimmy Hill capped off her final fall tournament with a 2-under par 70 to finish in third place individually and lead Texas Tech to a third place finish in the team standings at the Jim West Challenge at Tapatio Resort.
The No. 65 Lady Raiders (303-297-293--893) had to play the final 36 holes all on Monday rather than splitting up the two rounds in two days because of imminent weather in the Hill Country Region. Tech finished just one stroke behind Houston and seven back of champion No. 22 Texas A&M.
Tech finished seven strokes ahead of No. 27 Kent State and 13 better than No. 47 Wisconsin. Overall the Lady Raiders finished better than five teams ranked ahead of them in the Golfweek.com standings coming into this week.
Hill (74-75-70--219) saved her best for last after flirting with two even par rounds in the first two outings. She gave up only one bogey to go with 14 pars and three birdies - including one on the final par-5, 18th to secure third place ahead of Houston's Emily Gilbreth.
Newcomer Sarah Brown (78-73-72--223) also improved after her opening round 6-over score by going 1-over the rest of the way. Brown tallied nine birdies on Monday and played the second nine at even par over the three rounds.
Senior Stephanie Bertelsen (79-72-76--227) finished just four strokes back of Brown in 19th place while fellow senior Elin Arvidsson (76-81-75--232) and junior transfer Gennai Goodwin (75-77-80--232) tied for 28th.
Senior Mariah Montoya (84-74-79--237), playing as an individual, finished in a tie for 49th.
Monday's final round brings an end to the fall schedule for the Lady Raiders, who will play their next competitive tournament Feb. 23-24 at the UC Irvine Invitational.
