Texas Tech in Second at Big 12 Championship

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Texas Tech senior Stephanie Bertelsen shot a 2-under par 70 and Lauren Mason posted a 1-under 71 to lead the No. 39 Lady Raiders into second place after the first round of the Big 12 Championship at The Dominion Country Club.
Tech (289) is seven strokes back of leader No. 26 Baylor (282) and one stroke ahead of No. 37 Iowa State (290). The Lady Raiders are two strokes ahead of No. 11 Oklahoma State and beat out playing partners TCU (296) and Texas (300).
Bertelsen birdied three out of four holes on the first nine to get to 2-under and in a tie for third overall while Mason did almost the same and added a birdie on the 10th hole to get in a tie for the lead with eight to play.
Mason would eventually double bogey the 12th and 18th to finish at 71 and in a tie for sixth.
Junior Kimmy Hill, junior Sarah Brown and freshman Gabby Barker all ended their first days with 2-over 74s.
Bertelsen led all players in par 3 scoring at 2-under while the Lady Raiders led all teams in the same category and were second in par 5 scoring at 3-under.
Tech will tee off the second round at 10 a.m. Saturday alongside Iowa State and Baylor.
