LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field program hosted its final home meet of the 2014 indoor season Friday inside the Athletic Training Center.
The Red Raiders and Lady Raiders welcomed a handful of teams from across the region in the one-day meet, and turned in several impressive performances.
"I was pleased with the meet," Texas Tech head coach Wes Kittley said. "A lot of our younger group had a chance to compete at home, and better their marks for the conference meet."
Early on the track, freshman Lady Raider Kayla Coley advanced to the finals of the women's 55-meter hurdles where she finished fourth overall with a new season-best time of 8.21 seconds.
Meanwhile, Lady Raider Madeline Livergood continued her strong season clocking a season-best of 5:11.89 in the women's mile run to finish fourth overall in the competition. She was followed by teammate Chelsea Scott in sixth who clocked a season-best of 5:20.54.
Natalie Thompson followed with a third place finish in the women's 800-meter run crossing the finish line with a season-best time of 2:18.45. She was followed by teammates Lauren Jackson in 10th (2:25.68), Madeline Raney in 17th (2:30.32) and Audrey Alambar in 24th (2:35.82).
Also in the distance events, the Lady Raiders took three of the top-5 spots in the women's 1,000-meter run led by Kelly McQuaid in second with a time 3:00.07. She was followed by McKenzie Archer in fourth (3:04.80) and Macy Schulte in fifth (3:05.26).
For the Red Raiders Ramon Rueda finished fourth in the men's 1,000-meter run with a season-best time of 2:36.46.
In the field events, Lady Raider Aliyah Harmon finished second in the women's long jump with a season-best leap of 5.68-meters (18'-7.75"). Meanwhile, Hannah Carson picked up a win in the women's shot put with a career-best throw of 14.98-meters (49'-1.75") - a mark that moves her into the top-10 of the Big 12.
Representing the Red Raiders in the shot put, senior Jorge Garcia won the men's competition with a throw of 17.76-meters (58'-3.25").
Former Red Raider Omo Osaghae, running for Adidas, broke his own Athletic Training Center record early in the meet clocking a time of 7.05 seconds in the preliminaries of the 55-meter hurdles. He set the previous record of 7.07 in 2011.
Osaghae went on to finish first in the finals with a time of 7.07.
