Osaghae, Polk Both Advance at World Championships

Osaghae finished second in his heat and fifth overall in the preliminaries of the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.61 seconds. Polk finished seventh in the preliminaries of the women's long jump with a mark of 6.53-meters (21-5.25).
"It's a great day for two Tech athletes," Texas Tech head coach Wes Kittley said. "They are putting themselves in position to be in the hunt for a medal. I'm very proud of both."
By finishing in the top-3 of his heat, Osaghae automatically qualified for the semifinals of the men's 60-meter hurdles scheduled for tomorrow at 8:45 a.m. (CST). The top-2 in each semifinal heat plus the next two fastest times will advance to the finals following at 11:20 a.m. (CST).
The finals of the women's long jump are scheduled for 8:05 a.m. (CST).
Osaghae, competing for Team USA for the first time in his career, qualified for the IAAF World Championship after winning the U.S. Indoor Championships in Albuquerque in February. He is a three-time U.S. Indoor Champion.
Polk also won gold at the U.S. Indoor Championships where she went a career-best 6.70-meters (21-11.75). Polk finished eighth at the 2013 IAAF World Outdoor Championships and runner-up at the 2013 U.S. Outdoor Championships in Des Moines.
