Aug. 13, 2014
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Texas Tech's Cierra White has been named the USA Track & Field (USATF) Athlete of the Week, after her performance at the NACAC U-23 Championships, Aug. 8-10.
White, representing Team USA, took gold in all three races in which she competed--the 100 meter dash (11.32), 200 meter dash (23.05) and she ran the opening leg of the gold medal 4 x 100 meter relay (43.89). She did all of this in her first meet as a member of an international team.
White becomes the first Red Raider in school history to be honored with this award.
"This is such a great honor for Cierra," Texas Tech head coach Wes Kittley said. "Through her character, and what she accomplishes in both athletics and academics, she exemplifies everything a student-athlete should be. I am so proud she is a Red Raider."
Now in its 13th year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on www.usatf.org. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
