LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech men's basketball head coach Tubby Smith has received a National Letter of Intent and Athletic Scholarship Agreement from Keon Clergeot announced Wednesday as part of the NCAA early signing period.
"Keon is an outstanding competitor who is going to bring a lot of energy to our program," Smith said. "He has a relentless attitude toward playing the game. Keon is a very skilled offensive player and plays with a great deal of passion on the defensive end. He's a team player that can play the point guard and shooting guard positions. More importantly, Keon is an exceptional person. He really hit it off with our players during his recruiting visit. Keon is a great fit for our program, and we're very excited he chose to become a Red Raider."
Clergeot, a 6-1 guard from Auburndale High School which is located about an hour northeast of Tampa, is the third Floridian to sign the Red Raiders over the last three seasons joining Justin Gray and C.J. Williamson. Clergeot was ranked among the Top 20 juniors in Florida by ESPN and led his team to the state playoffs in two of his first three seasons under head coach Eric Robinson. He played with the Florida Elite on the Adidas circuit last summer where he averaged over 15 points and three steals per game.
