Carson Impresses On Day One In San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Texas Tech's Hannah Carson started her outdoor season with a bang, winning the javelin, at the UTSA Invitational, in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday.
Carson's launch of 54.84m/179-11, her final throw of the day, came close to her school record of 56.43m/185-2, which she threw at the 2014 USATF Championships,and was enough to win the event. Carson was a first team All-American in the event in 2014.
"Hannah had a great day," Texas Tech head coach Wes Kittley said. "I really liked the consistency she displayed in her series of throws. That's a great start to the season for her."
Alexis Lewis placed fifth in the women's weight throw, achieving a mark of 50.17m/164-7.
On the men's side, Kole Weldon took second in the hammer throw, with a mark of 59.26m/194-5. Weldon took second in the hammer throw at the 2014 Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
The Red Raiders will resume competition in San Antonio tomorrow, with field events beginning at 11 a.m., and running events getting started at 11:55 a.m.
