Tech Finishes Third at Briar's Creek

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Sarah Brown, Lauren Mason and Stephanie Bertelsen finished tied for 14th to help lead Texas Tech to a third place finish in the Briar's Creek Invitational at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek on Tuesday.
No. 44 Tech (299-289-288--876) finished 13 strokes ahead of fourth-place Campbell and 20 strokes better than No. 41 Coastal Carolina and No. 35 Kent State. No. 29 Florida (291-293-282--866) won the team title.
The Lady Raiders moved up into the second place slot following the completion of the second round early Tuesday morning with a 1-over 289 and then went back and forth with No. 38 Miami the remainder of the day. Brown led the charge with a 4-under 68 in the second round - her second-lowest 18-hole score this season.
She recovered in her third round with birdies on three of her final seven holes following a triple bogey on No. 12 and bogey on the 13th. Brown (79-68-63--220) and Mason (70-73-77--220) finished with the third-most birdies this week with 12 each while Kimmy Hill and Gabby Barker ended the tournament with 10 and nine, respectively.
Hill (78-73-71--222) finished tied for 23rd while Barker (76-77-70--223) finished one back in a tie for 26th. Senior Elin Arvidsson (75-75-74--224) rounded out the team scores in a tie for 30th.
Bertelsen (74-74-72--220) played as an individual this week and improved following her 38th place finish last week at the Wildcat Invitational.
Tech will end the month with one more trip out to Florida for the Web.com Invitational at Marsh Landing Golf Club in Jacksonville, Florida - March 30-31.
