Tech in Third After First Round at Briar's Creek

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Lauren Mason birdied seven holes en route to a 2-under par 70 to help getTexas Tech in third place in the first round of the Briar's Creek Invitational at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek on Monday.
The No. 44 Lady Raiders (299) are just eight shots back ofthe lead with No. 38 Miami and No. 29 Florida at the top (291). Tech is two shots clear of No. 35 Kent State and four shots clear of East Carolina.
Second round play was suspended late Monday due to darkness and will resume at 8 a.m. ET Tuesday, followed by the third and final round. The Lady Raiders are looking to defend their 2014 title at Briar's Creek and win their 10th tournament in the last five years.
Mason, who celebrated her 20th birthday on Monday,jumped out to the lead with four birdies in her first six holes before bogeying five and adding three more birdies on the way in. She is second in par 4 scoring at 2-under par (3.9 average).
Elin Arvidsson (75) and Gabby Barker (76) followed Mason in team standings along with Kimmy Hill (78) and Sarah Brown (79) rounding out the scores.
Senior Stephanie Bertelsen, playing as an individual this week, is tied for 12th following a 2-over 74.
