Carson Claims Big 12 Athlete Of The Week Award

Texas Tech thrower Hannah Carson has been named the Big 12 Female Athlete of the Week, her first time to win the award.
IRVING, Texas -- Texas Tech's Hannah Carson has been named the Big 12 Female Track & Field Athlete of the Week this afternoon, after winning three different throwing events at the Texas Tech Open, this weekend.
Carson, who already has the No. 2 javelin mark in the nation, won the javelin on Friday with a best throw of 54.06m/177-4, the No. 3 throw in school history. She also won the shot put (14.19m/46-6.75) and the discus (49.61m/162-09) on Saturday. She now ranks No. 1 in the Big 12 in the javelin, No. 6 in the shot put and No. 8 in the discus.
This is the third-straight Big 12 Athlete of the Week award for the Red Raiders, after JaCorian Duffield won the award last week, and Chris Caldwell took the honor the week before that. This is the first time Carson has won this award, indoors or outdoors.
This is now the seventh combined Big 12 weekly award between the indoor and outdoor seasons won by the Tech men and women in 2015. The previous program high for a single season was five
The No. 10 Red Raiders and No. 14 Lady Raiders will be in action this Saturday, April 11, at the ACU Wes Kittley Invitational, which will be held in Abilene, Texas.
