Texas Tech Welcomes Oklahoma for Wednesday Tilt

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Volleyball looks for its first Big 12 win of the season as it plays host to Oklahoma Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. CT at United Supermarkets Arena.
The match will air on FOX Sports Southwest Plus and FOX College Sports Pacific with Robert Giovannetti and Mike Moffit on the call.
The Red Raiders (10-10, 0-5) are looking to erase an eight-game losing streak following a loss at No. 6 Kansas Saturday at Horejsi Family Athletics Center in Lawrence. Texas Tech is looking to avoid its first 0-6 start to conference play since 2011.
Oklahoma (11-7, 2-3) enters the contest winners of their last two meetings, defeating West Virginia 3-0 on Friday before topping again, 3-1, Saturday. The Sooners' wins over the Mountaineers ended a six-match skid of their own, which included losses against No. 21 USC, Maryland, No. 5 Washington, No. 4 Texas and No. 8 Kansas.
Wednesday is Faculty/Staff Appreciation night as all TTU faculty/staff receive free admission with a TTU ID. Fans are also invited to participate in a post-match 6 v. 60 scrimmage on the court in which 60 fans get the opportunity to play a friendly match against six Texas Tech volleyball players. General admission tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for youth and are available at the United Supermarkets Arena ticket office. A reminder that the clear bag policy is in effect for all Texas Tech athletic events.
SCOUTING THE SOONERS
Oklahoma comes in hot after a pair of road wins at West Virginia last week got the Sooners off a six-game skid and gave them their first two wins in the Big 12 this season. Junior middle blocker Marion Hazelwood, who picked up Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors for her efforts, leads the defense with 1.18 blocks per set to go with 2.47 kills on a .301 hitting percentage. Redshirt-senior outside hitter Madison Ward filled in for injured senior captains Kimmy Gardiner and Micaela Spann to lead the Sooners with 18 kills in each win. Overall, five Sooners are averaging better than 2.40 kills per set.

Texas Tech leads the all-time series with Oklahoma, 35-33, including a split in the series last season. Texas Tech's 3-2 win in 2015 snapped a 19-match losing streak to the sooners at the time. The Red Raiders hold a 14-11 advantage in the series in Lubbock, including the win at home last season. The series between the two teams dates back to 1976 with Texas Tech winning 19 of the 28 contests prior to the formation of the Big 12.

The Red Raiders are coming off a loss at No. 6 Kansas in which they went toe-to-toe in the second and third sets before falling 25-8, 25-18, 25-18. Sophomore Kyndal Cowan, an Oklahoma transfer, earned her second start of the year at setter and posted a team-high nine assists. Freshman Toni McDougald and senior Lauren Douglass led the team in kills with six apiece, while McDougald posted a career-high .455 hitting percentage. Sophomore Reyn Akiu and freshman Maggie Sagers led the defense with nine digs each as the Red Raiders dropped their eighth straight loss.
AMONG THE BIG 12'S BEST
A trio of Red Raiders rank among the best in the Big 12 for their position. Senior Lauren Douglass is third in the conference with a .385 hitting percentage, a clip which ranks 37th nationally. Sophomore Tita Akiu is leads the conference with 336 total digs and is tied for second in the conference with 4.88 digs/set. Likewise, senior setter Marguerite Grubb is one of five players in the Big 12 averaging double-digit assists/set (10.08).

The Red Raiders started their home slate 5-0 with a win over UTEP in the practice gym, before going 4-0 in the Texas Tech Invitational. Despite dropping its first two Big 12 home matches, Texas Tech has won 15 of 23 sets played at home this season.
