Three Top-Five Finishes Secured by Texas Tech Cross Country at Bronco Invitational

Texas Tech heads into the Big 12 Championships with fifth and sixth place team finishes on the west coast
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Senior Jocelyn Caro finished first among attached collegiate athletes in the 6k at Baylands Park pacing an impressive personal-best of 19:47.9.

Head Coach Jon Murray described Jocelyn's performance as, "a spirited and smart race to get second. It was a huge personal best for the 6k."

Also shaving off time to pick up new personal-bests in the 8k were junior Miguel Bautista running at a time of 23:32.5 and senior Benard Keter finishing in 23:37.0. "Miguel and Benard did a great job of running a paced race and almost took the win."

Murray feels that, "both teams showed tremendous progress across the board."

 Following Bautista and Keter were: junior Todd Mickey(24:43.9), junior Ebenether Wondaferew (24:54.0), freshman Nathan Gift (25:07.2), junior Clark Blunt (25:23.4), senior Nick Rivera (25:16.1), sophomore Joacim Zuniga (25:18.3) and freshman Shea Whatley (26:13.8).

Behind Caro in the race was: junior Hattie Schunk (21:28.4), junior Jasmine Torres (21:33.8), freshman Denae Chapman (21:50.5), junior Lynda Hanson (22:01.3), senior Maggy Mulholland (22:25.3), freshman Bret Leigh Nance (22:29.4), freshman Jessica Gallardo (22:38.3) and sophomore Kaylee Amershek (23:10.4).

"We are in a good place going into the Big 12 meet," Murray stated.

The Big 12 Championship will take place on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Rawls Golf Course in Lubbock with the women's 6k race taking place at 10 a.m. and the men's 8k following at 11 a.m.Â
