Texas Tech Cross Country Prepared for Big 12 Championship at Rawls Course

Saturday marks the second Big 12 Cross Country Championship hosted by Texas Tech at the Rawls Golf Course since 2007
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Cross Country hopes to use its home course advantage on Saturday to achieve top times across the board at the Big 12 Championship.

Texas Tech is encouraging fans to arrive early Saturday morning for the Big 12 Cross Country Championship at the Rawls Course. The women's 6,000-meter run is set to begin at 10 a.m. and the men's 8,000-meter run is scheduled to follow at 11 a.m. Parking shuttles will begin running from the S-1 lot to the Rawls Course starting at 9 a.m. and will run through the conclusion of the event.

The Red Raiders will be competing against two top-15 men's teams and three top-20 women's teams to earn top spots in the meet. Â

Senior Jocelyn Caro strives to be named All-Big 12 for the second consecutive year while junior Miguel Bautista and senior Benard Keter look to earn their first All-Big 12 honors. All three Red Raiders have earned Big 12 Runner of the Week honors this season and have pushed to achieve new personal-best times in every competition thus far.

Texas Tech's winningest years at the Big 12 Championship were in 2008-2010 where the women's team achieved first-place honors in three consecutive years.

Former Texas Tech Cross Country standout Sally Kipyego holds the course record on the women's side with a time of 19:22.5 from 2007 when Texas Tech last hosted the Big 12 Championship. The men's course record was achieved the same year by Colorado runner Brent Vaughn who finished in 24:22.3.

In 2012 and 2013 Kennedy Kithuka snagged first-place individual finishes on the men's side at the Big 12 Championships in Waco and Austin, Texas.
