Texas Tech takes on Howard College and Eastern New Mexico in doubleheader starting at Noon.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Softball launches its 2016 fall slate Sat., Oct. 22, as it hosts Howard College and Eastern New Mexico in a doubleheader at Rocky Johnson Field.
Â
The Red Raiders and Hawks will square off at Noon before Texas Tech battles the Greyhounds at 2:30 p.m. Howard and ENMU will then square off at 5 p.m.
Â
"We are fired up to start our fall season," Texas Tech softball head coach Adrian Gregory said. "Our kids have been working extremely hard this season and there is nothing like the first game of the year. We have many players vying for different positions, so it will be exciting watching them continue to compete. There is great energy and great chemistry, which makes us very excited about this team!"
Â
The Red Raiders play eight exhibitions throughout the fall in a four-week stretch before wrapping things up with the Red Raider World Series Nov. 15-17.
Â
The remainder of Texas Tech's fall slate includes doubleheaders against Odessa College (Oct. 25), Midland College (Nov. 2) and McClennan Community College (Nov. 12). All exhibitions will take place at Rocky Johnson Field and admission is free.
Â
The Red Raiders will square off with Howard in the first game of the fall, who posted an impressive 40-18 record last season. The Red Raiders and Hawks matched up last fall with Texas Tech needing only 10 innings to outpace the Hawks 30-6.
Â
Saturday's second matchup against ENMU will feature a family connection as the Greyhounds' first year head coach, Katie Welborn, is the sister of Texas Tech senior Susan Welborn. Katie, a former Lubbock Christian University assistant, takes over a program that finished 13-42 last season and 4-27 in the Lone Star Conference.
Â
The Red Raiders enter their third year under head coach Adrian Gregory. Texas Tech compiled a 23-32 mark last season, including a 6-12 record in Big 12 play. Twelve letterwinners return from last year's squad, headlined by senior outfielder Kierra Miles, who led the Big 12 and set a school record with 17 home runs in 2016.
