November 12, 2016 | Women's Volleyball
Senior Lauren Douglass records her 18th double-digit kill performance of the season in the loss.
NORMAN, Okla. – Senior Lauren Douglass tallied a match-high 12 kills, but the Sooners managed to pull away and deal Texas Tech volleyball a 3-0 loss Saturday night at McCasland Field House in Norman, Okla.
Â
Tech (10-18, 0-13) held a late lead in the first set, but the Sooners (14-12, 5-8) rallied to take the frame before their offense came alive in the next two sets and allow them to take a 27-25, 25-18, 25-19 victory.
Â
"I was happy with our game plan, offense and block tonight," head coach Tony Graystone said. "We are still struggling to find that confidence needed to finish games and take that next step. It's very clear that we're right there, but it's the small things holding us back. I'm very happy with Toni (McDougald) and Chandler (Atwood) tonight. They looked like Big 12 outside hitters and were very solid."
Â
Sophomore Alyssa Enneking led the Sooners with 12 kills while two others added ten apiece as Oklahoma outhit the Red Raiders .324 to .200 for the match.
Â
Douglass added a team-high six blocks to go along with her 18th double-digit kill performance of the season. Freshman Chandler Atwood came on in reserve to punch eight kills, while fellow freshman Toni McDougald added six. Senior Marguerite Grubb had a solid outing with 31 assists, while sophomore libero Reyn Akiu notched a match-high 15 digs.
Â
The Red Raiders pulled ahead 22-20 in what was a tight first set, but the Sooners rallied with the set's next four points. While Tech managed to fend off three set points, Oklahoma eventually took the set with one of their five team blocks in the frame.
Â
The two sides battled to an 8-8 draw in the second set before Oklahoma managed a 5-1 run to take a 13-9 lead. Tech was able to narrow the gap to two at 16-14, but the Sooners proved too tough offensively as they hit .419 in the stanza en route to winning the set, 25-18.
Â
In the third set, Tech managed only nine kills to the Sooners' 16 and hit just .103 for the set as Oklahoma used a 6-1 run midway through the frame to gain a 19-15 edge, and they would close it out from there.
