GAMEDAY STORYLINES
- The Red Raiders are coming off a disappointing 66-10 setback last weekend at Iowa State that ensured Texas Tech of missing a bowl game for just the third time since 2000. Tech is currently 4-7 on the season entering Friday's game with Baylor.
- Texas Tech will be looking to snap a five-game losing streak to Baylor as the Bears now control a slight advantage in the all-time series with a 37-36-1 lead. The Red Raiders previously compiled a 15-game winning streak over Baylor before the Bears pulled off a 66-42 victory in 2011.
- This will be the sixth-consecutive season where Texas Tech and Baylor have met inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The game is slated to remain in Arlington until the 2018 season.
- Patrick Mahomes II needs just 243 yards of total offense to become only the second player in NCAA FBS history to record 5,000 yards of total offense twice in a career. Mahomes, the youngest player in FBS history to reach the mark, would potentially join former Houston quarterback Case Keenum, who posted 5,000 yards of total offense three times in his career (2008-09, 2011). Like Mahomes, Keenum was a pupil of Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury as he was on the Houston Staff from 2008-11.Â
- Jonathan Giles could also place his name in the Texas Tech record book against Baylor as he needs 23 receiving yards to tie Wes Welker for 10th all-time in single-season history. Giles enters the Baylor game with 1,076 receiving yards this season which ranks 16th nationally and third in the Big 12 heading into this weekend.
- Texas Tech has been among the most disciplined teams in the country the past four weeks as the Red Raiders have committed just 10 penalties which have resulted in 41 yards during that time.Â
- Texas Tech boasts one of the most high-octane offenses in the country this season as the Red Raiders lead the nation in passing offense (451.8 yards per game) as well as first downs offense (336) while also ranking second in total offense (555.3 yards per game) and fourth in third-down conversion percentage (52.2 percent).
