Lady Raiders Host Midwestern State for Exhibition Contest

Texas Tech vs. Midwestern State, Sunday, Nov. 6, 2 p.m.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Lady Raider Basketball begins play with an exhibition game as they host Midwestern State on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena.
The Lady Raiders are 36-6 all time in exhibition games. Tech defeated Midwestern State in an exhibition game, 77-62, on Nov. 4, 2012.
Texas Tech begins its fourth season under Head Coach Candi Whitaker. The Lady Raiders return six while welcoming six newcomers to the court. Transfers Jada Terry, Recee' Caldwell and Larryn Brooks will see playing time after sitting out the 2015-16 season due to NCAA transfer rules. Freshman Brittany Brewer, Grayson Bright and Arella Guirantes join the Lady Raiders and will have an instant impact on the team's play.
Midwestern State enters the game after falling 110-47 to No. 16/18 Oklahoma in the first exhibition game. Former Lady Raider and Mustangs head coach, Noel Johnson returns to Lubbock for the second time in her coaching career.
Admission is free to the public. Fans will receive a voucher to exchange for two free tickets to any non-conference home game in November or December.

- Texas Tech opens the 2016-17 season with an exhibition matchup against Midwestern State. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
- Midwestern State Head Coach Noel Johnson returns to Texas Tech. Johnson played for the Lady Raiders 1991-95. She helped Tech to four SWC championships, four NCAA Sweet 16 appearances and a National Championship in 1993.
- Sunday's game will mark the second meeting between the Lady Raiders and the Mustangs. The two programs previously met in an exhibition game on Nov. 4, 2012. The Lady Raiders defeated the Mustangs 77-62. This is the first meeting under Coach Whitaker.
- Midwestern State played its first exhibition game at Oklahoma on Wednesday. The Mustangs fell 110-47 to the No. 16/18 team in the nation.
- The Lady Raiders return six letterwinners including senior Ivonne CookTaylor and sophomore Japreece Dean. CookTaylor was the Lady Raiders leading scorer, averaging 14.3 points per game. She was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention. Dean was the Lady Raiders' top free-throw shooter, posting a .806 average as the starting point guard. She was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.
- Texas Tech was picked to finish seventh in the Big 12 preseason poll. This marked the highest Big 12 preseason ranking for the Lady Raiders under Head Coach Candi Whitaker.
- Recee' Caldwell, Jada Terry and Larryn Brooks join the Lady Raiders on the court after sitting out the 2015-16 season due to NCAA Transfer rules. Caldwell came to Lubbock from UCLA where she averaged 6.9 points per game as a freshman. She was a top 10 recruit in the nation. Terry transferred to Tech after two years at Texas A&M. Not only is she talented, her 6-foot-4 stature will help the Lady Raiders at the basket. Brooks transferred from Indiana where she was the leading scorer in her first two seasons. She adds depth to the Lady Raiders guard corp.
- The Lady Raiders also welcomed three freshmen to the 2016-17 squad. Guard Arella Guirantes and forward Brittany Brewer were ranked in the Top 50 in the 2016 class while guard Grayson Bright was in the Top 75. All three will make an immediate impact on the team this season.
- Texas Tech traveled to Colorado Springs, Colo., last weekend to scrimmage Oregon State at the United States Olympic Training Center.

The Lady Raiders open the 2016-17 regular season on Sunday, Nov. 13 as they host North Dakota for a 2 p.m. tip. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Network plus.
The Lady Raiders have won 10 straight home openers dating back to the 2005-06 season.
