Texas Tech finishes in a tie for eighth place after rain limits field to just one round in Dallas
LUBBOCK, Texas – The final round of the Trinity Forest Invitational was canceled Tuesday morning due to rainy conditions throughout the Dallas area, leaving Texas Tech in a tie for eighth place to close the tournament.
Â
The Lady Raiders battled similar wet and rainy conditions Monday en route to shooting a 27-over 315 opening round. Michigan claimed the team title after firing a 16-over card that was one stroke better than second-place Texas A&M.
Â
Gabby Barker and Mami Yamamoto led the Lady Raiders with a pair of 5-over 77 cards that pushed the duo into a tie for 20th overall. Caralyn Barker posted a 7-over score to sit in a tie for 35th while Lauren Mason and Sofia Garcia added 10-over rounds to finish in a tie for 52nd overall. Emma Ballard also recorded an 11-over round as an unattached individual.
Â
The 14-team field was expected to play two rounds Monday but rain delays and general wet conditions at the Trinity Forest Golf Club limited the event to just 18 holes. The tournament was expected to conclude with a final 18 holes today, making it a 36-hole event.
Â
This was the final tournament for Tech's fall slate as the Lady Raiders resume their 2016-17 campaign Feb. 12-14 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. Tech will play in five tournaments this spring leading up to the Big 12 Championships, which will be held April 21-23 in San Antonio, Texas.
