TEXAS TECH IN THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
INSIDE THE EAST CAROLINA SERIES
- Texas Tech will look to advance to the College World Series in Omaha for the second time in school history this weekend when the Red Raiders host East Carolina in the NCAA Lubbock Super Regional. The series begins with a 7 p.m. first pitch Friday evening inside Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park and continues with 2 p.m. starts on both Saturday and Sunday (if necessary).
- Texas Tech is the No. 5 national seed in the NCAA Championship, marking the first time the Red Raiders have earned a national seed since the NCAA went to its current format (Super Regionals) in 1999.Â
- Texas Tech is looking to advance to the College World Series for the second time in school history as the Red Raiders previously made the historic trip to Omaha in 2014.
- This will be Texas Tech's second all-time appearance in a Super Regional as the Red Raiders previously topped College of Charleston via a pair of 1-0 victories in 2014. It marked the first time in the NCAA Super Regional era that a team had won with a pair of 1-0 games.
- Tickets are already sold out for this weekend's NCAA Lubbock Super Regional. Texas Tech season ticket holders as well as Red Raider Club members purchased enough tickets in the 24 hours following Monday's 5-3 victory over Dallas Baptist that the athletics department was able to call a sellout on Tuesday evening.
- Texas Tech won the NCAA Lubbock Regional on Monday afternoon after securing a 5-3 victory over Dallas Baptist in the "if necessary" game. The Red Raiders previously defeated Fairfield, 12-1, to open the tournament before rallying for a 4-3 victory over New Mexico to advance to the championship game.
- Texas Tech enters this weekend having won five of its last six NCAA Championship games played inside Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park. The Red Raiders swept the 2014 Super Regional at home and then won three of four games last weekend in the NCAA Lubbock Regional.
- Texas Tech is 9-7 all-time when hosting either an NCAA Regional or Super Regional at home. The Red Raiders previously hosted the NCAA Regional round in 1996, 1997 and 1999 prior to this season.
TEXAS TECH IN THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
- Texas Tech is making its 11th all-time appearance in the NCAA Championship as the Red Raiders are 23-22 all-time in the event.
- The Red Raiders previously advanced to the NCAA Championship over eight-straight seasons from 1995-2002 and then again in 2004 and 2014.
- Texas Tech advanced to this weekend's Super Regional after defeating the likes of Fairfield, New Mexico and Dallas Baptist during the NCAA Lubbock Regional. The Red Raiders opened the tournament with 12-1 and 4-3 victories over Fairfield and New Mexico and then needed a 5-3 win in the "if necessary" game Monday to advance to their second Super Regional in school history.
- Texas Tech enters this weekend having won five of its last six NCAA Championship games played inside Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park. The Red Raiders swept the 2014 Super Regional at home and then won three of four games last weekend in the NCAA Lubbock Regional.
- Texas Tech is hosting an NCAA Super Regional for the second time in program history as the Red Raiders previously faced College of Charleston in 2014. Tech won both of those games via 1-0 shutout victories. It marked the first time in the NCAA Super Regional era that a team had won with a pair of 1-0 games.
- Texas Tech is one of just 13 schools nationally and one of three in the Big 12 Conference (TCU, Oklahoma State) to advance to a Super Regional twice over the past three seasons.
- Texas Tech is 9-7 all-time in NCAA Championship games played at home as the Red Raiders previously hosted the NCAA Regional round in 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2016 as well as the 2014 NCAA Super Regional.Â
- The Red Raiders advanced to the College World Series in Omaha for the first time in program history during their last appearance in the NCAA Championship. Texas Tech toppled both Columbia and No. 3 Miami in the NCAA Coral Gables Regional before downing College of Charleston in the NCAA Lubbock Super Regional.
- Texas Tech is 6-5 all-time as the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Championship. The Red Raiders were also the No. 1 seed at the 1995 NCAA Midwest Regional in Wichita, Kansas (3-2) and at the 1997 NCAA Lubbock Regional (0-2).
- East Carolina is the first current, baseball-playing member of the American Athletic Conference to face the Red Raiders during the NCAA Championship. The Red Raiders faced Temple during the 2001 NCAA Fullerton Regional (W, 14-3) before the Owls dropped their baseball program following the 2014 season.
- East Carolina is Texas Tech's 28th all-time opponent in NCAA Championship play, which dates back to 1995.
- Texas Tech has sold out each of its last six NCAA Championship games held at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park. Tech had 4,811 fans on hand for the 2014 NCAA Super Regional and then had 4,732 fans in attendance all four days last weekend for the NCAA Lubbock Regional.
- Tim Tadlock is only the second head coach in school history to lead the Red Raiders to the NCAA Championship. Larry Hays previously made nine NCAA tournament appearances during his tenure from 1987-2008.
- Texas Tech is 8-4 all-time in NCAA Championship games under head coach Tim Tadlock.
INSIDE THE EAST CAROLINA SERIES
- Friday will mark the first ever meeting between Texas Tech and East Carolina on a baseball diamond.
- Texas Tech is 74-64 all-time against current members of the America Athletic Conference. Texas Tech is 1-0 against the American so far this season as the Red Raiders topped Houston, 3-2, on Feb. 26 to open the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic held in Houston.
