Lady Raiders 5-2 against Georgia State in singles play to wrap tournament
ATHENS, Ga. – Texas Tech Women's Tennis concluded the 2016 Georgia Bulldog Classic with a 5-2 day against Georgia State in singles action.
"It was great to get three quality matches in early," Head Coach Todd Petty said. "We definitely identified some holes in the competitiveness, but also understand that it's still early in the season. This is just a starting point for what we need to focus on going forward."
Freshman Reagan Collins ended the weekend with a three-set win over Georgia State's Ilona Golynker for her third straight win in her Lady Raider debut.
Felicity Maltby claimed a three-set win to defeat Kristin Rehse (6-3, 3-6, 6-0). After dropping the first set, Sarah Dvorak rallied back to defeat Tarani Kamoe, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Back to her winning ways, Sabrina Federici beat GSU's Lara Vovk in two sets (6-0, 6-2). Senior Lynn Kiro follow suit and picked up a 6-4, 7-5 win over Anastasia Grosheva.
The Lady Raiders continue their fall schedule at the Oklahoma Fall Invitational in Norman, Okla., next weekend. Sophomore Alex Valenstein was invited to compete in the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championship Main Draw set to begin Sept. 28. Gabriela Talaba, Sarah Dvorak and Felicity Maltby were also invited to take part in the qualifying singles on Sept. 26.
