Talaba Defeats Top 10 Opponent on Day Two in Miami

Lady Raiders finish with seven wins over host No. 12 Miami
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Junior Gabriela Talaba led the Lady Raider tennis team to six wins on day two of the Miami Spring Invitational with a win over the highest ranked opponent in school history.

Talaba upset No. 6 Sinead Lohan of Miami in straight sets. She pulled out a 7-6 win over Lohan after a 7-3 tie break. Talaba took control over the second set and completed the match, 6-1.

The win was Talaba's first over a nationally-ranked opponent this season.

The Lady Raiders ended play against No. 12 Miami with a 7-4 record, winning two out of three doubles matches on Friday and four of the seven singles matches on Saturday. Â

In doubles action, the Lady Raiders won two of the three matches against Kentucky. Duo Talaba and Felicity Maltby took down Kentucky's Adachi and Fanning (6-4) while Katelyn Jackson and Alex Valenstein defeated Chumney and Novakovic, 6-1.

Texas Tech wraps up play at the Miami Spring Invitational on Sunday with doubles matches against Vanderbilt and singles play against Kentucky. First serve is set for 7 a.m. CT.
