Women's Tennis Sweeps No. 20 Kentucky in Singles Play

Junior Gabriela Talaba wins second match over a Top 15 opponent
CORAL GABLES, Fla.  – The Texas Tech women's tennis team swept No. 20 Kentucky in singles play to close out the Miami Spring Invitational Sunday morning.

Junior Gabriela Talaba led the team with her second straight win over a Top 15 opponent. Talaba clinched a 7-5 win in the first set before defeating Kentucky's No. 12 Aldila Sutjiadi, with a 6-1 second set.

Sophomore Felicity Maltby claimed her first ranked win of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over No. 74 Akvile Parazinskaite.

All six Lady Raiders picked up wins in straight sets over Kentucky. Sophomore Alex Valenstein took a 6-3, 6-4 win over Mami Adachi. Teammate Sabrina Federici took set one against Emily Fanning and was up 1-0 in the second set before Fanning retired from the match.

Junior Sarah Dvorak picked up her first win of the season with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Milica Novakovic while freshman Alba Cortina-Pou won her second match as a Lady Raider with a 6-3, 6-0 win.

Duo Dvorak and Federici defeated Vanderbilt's Emma Kurtz and Christina Rosca, 6-1, in doubles play.

The Lady Raiders open the spring home slate next weekend as they host the ITA Kickoff Weekend for the second straight year. UC Santa Barbara, Arizona State and South Carolina will travel to Lubbock, Texas, for weekend events.
