Red Raiders tee off at 8:30 a.m. CT Monday morning from the Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team will tee off its final tournament of the fall Monday morning when the Red Raiders open the Trinity Forest Invitational hosted by SMU in Dallas.
Â
It will be the fourth tournament of the season for the Red Raiders, who will look to successfully navigate the 6,372-yard Trinity Forest Golf Club, the new home of the PGA Tour's AT&T Byron Nelson Invitational.
Â
Tech finished tied for eighth in the rain-shortened event in 2016 as the final two rounds of the scheduled 54-hole tournament were canceled due to inclement weather. The Red Raiders, who regularly performed better in the second and third rounds a year ago, managed only a 27-over-par 315 to end in a tie with Big 12 foes Kansas State and Kansas.
Â
Gabby Barker and Mami Yamamoto posted Tech's lowest two scores in that opening round last season as the duo signed for 5-over 77 cards to end in a tie for 20th overall. Lauren Mason was the only other Red Raider in this year's lineup that played in the 2016 event as she recorded a 10-over 82 that put her in a tie for 52nd individually.
Â
The trio will be joined in the lineup by Emma Ballard and Louisa Brunt as sophomore Sofia Garcia remains out with an injury. Barker will be back in Tech's lineup after missing the previous Maryb S. Kauth Invitational due to her participation in the second stage of LPGA Tour qualifying.
Â
The Red Raiders are one of 13 teams in this week's field as Tech will see a pair of familiar in-state schools in No. 33 Texas A&M and No. 36 Houston as well as Big 12 counterpart K-State. Colorado is the highest-ranked team in the field as the Buffaloes are No. 12 in the latest Golfweek poll.
Â
The Trinity Forest Invitational will feature an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start both days as the field will play 36 holes on Monday and then a final 18 on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available throughout the week at Golfstat.com.
